Peace Project in the Fergana Valley to Continue at OshSU

It has been announced that a project aimed at strengthening peace in the Fergana Valley and developing cross-border cooperation will continue at Osh State University (OshSU) in 2026.

This was reported by the Director of the Department for Research Development of the university, Joldoshbek Bötönöev, during the international conference titled “Shared Borders – Shared Trust: The Role of Civil Society and Sustainable Cross-Border Cooperation in the Fergana Valley”, held in Tashkent on January 26–27. He participated in the event as a speaker at a panel session.

The conference was attended by the European Union Ambassador to Uzbekistan Toivo Klaar, Director of the UK-based Saferworld organization Tamara Duffey Janser, representatives of civil society and international organizations, OshSU lecturer of the Institute of Oriental Studies Samagan Myrzakanova, and second-year student of the same institute Aman Rahmanberdiev.

During the event, the results of the project titled “Bridges of Friendship: Together Toward Peace through Mediation and Dialogue”, implemented by the “Friendship, Tolerance and Mediation” Center under the institute, were presented.

The project was implemented in the Fergana Valley in 2025 and was funded by the European Union with a grant of 6,000 euros. Within its framework, mediation training sessions were conducted and a cross-border youth forum was organized. Participants gained skills in conflict resolution and dialogue, and developed initiatives aimed at enhancing cross-border cooperation.

The scientific project is expected to continue in 2026 with the support of the European Union, with funding potentially ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 US dollars.
