Scientists from Osh State University studied the condition of pistachio forests in Jalal-Abad, methods of their expansion, and the potential for establishing new pistachio plantations in Osh Region.

On October 25, they visited the Institute of Walnut Growing and Forest Ecosystems and, together with its staff, went to the S. Bolotov Karabulak field station in Nooken District. They also examined the pistachio forests on site.

During the meeting, participants discussed when and how the pistachio groves were established, pistachio varieties, the results of cultivation experiments, and ways to expand plantation areas. They also explored the possibility of planting new pistachio trees in Osh Region and exchanged views on future cooperation.

The contribution of Bakytbek Shamshiev, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, professor, and forest scientist, was highlighted in implementing projects and providing consultations. He previously headed the Institute of Walnut Growing and Forest Ecosystems. He continues to support research projects and share his expertise.

The visit was organized within the framework of two projects funded by OshSU’s internal grants: “Innovative Nursery,” led by Associate Professor Abdizhapar Akkulov, and “Food Security,” led by Associate Professor Elmurat Obdunov. It also covered the project “Restoration of Lands Degraded by Landslides: Forest Reclamation and Bioremediation to Preserve Mountain Ecosystems under Climate Change,” funded by the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Innovation and led by Associate Professor Abdiжapar Akkulov.

The visit aimed to strengthen scientific cooperation, protect and restore forests, promote the sustainable use of land resources in the context of climate change, and explore opportunities for growing pistachio trees in Osh Region.
