Osh State University has become the first higher education institution in Kyrgyzstan to be featured in the QS World University Rankings by Subject. The university made its debut in the rankings, securing a position in the 301-350 range in the Modern Languages category.

This achievement was announced in the 15th edition of the annual subject rankings, compiled by the international higher education analytics agency QS Quacquarelli Symonds.

The QS World University Rankings 2025 evaluate universities across 55 individual subjects, grouped into five broad disciplines: arts and humanities, engineering and technology, life sciences and medicine, natural sciences, and social sciences and management.

The top 200 subject rankings include 11 universities from Kazakhstan and five from Uzbekistan. Representing Kyrgyzstan, Osh State University and Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University also secured spots in the rankings.

The higher education landscape in Central Asia continues to progress. I am pleased to note that six universities from the region have made their debut in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025,” stated Ben Sauter, Senior Vice President at QS.

Leading the global rankings are universities from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Italy. Institutions in East Asia, particularly in South Korea, mainland China, and Hong Kong, have shown remarkable growth, while the number of ranked universities has also increased in West Asia and the Arab region.

The subject rankings are based on an independent comparative analysis of over 21,000 degree programs offered by 1,756 universities across 101 countries and regions.

QS evaluates universities using five key indicators:

  • Academic reputation
  • Employer reputation
  • Citations per publication
  • Institutional Hirsch index
  • International research collaboration

This recognition highlights the excellence of Osh State University’s educational and research programs in modern languages, reaffirming its commitment to academic quality and global engagement.
