On March 13, the university hosted a scientific and practical seminar titled “The Role of Fathers in Kyrgyz Culture.”
During the event, Abdymitalip Murzakmetov, a writer, ethnographer, and head of the Kyrgyz Literature Department, delivered an engaging presentation to students about the significance of fathers in family life. He analyzed and explained Kyrgyz proverbs about fathers. Additionally, he shared personal stories about his relationship with his father and his experience raising his own sons.
“A father is not always perfect—everyone has a different experience with their own. It is important to accept them as they are and learn from both their strengths and weaknesses,” Murzakmetov emphasized.
Students at the seminar also shared advice they had received from their fathers and expressed their wishes.
“The goal of today’s event is to pass down the wisdom of fathers to younger generations and strengthen father-child relationships. Various educational, cultural, social, and sports activities are planned as part of this initiative,” said Nurzhamal Mapaeva, Vice-Rector for Community Work and Youth Policy.
Father’s Day in Kyrgyzstan is observed on March 15, following a law signed by President Sadyr Japarov on July 25, 2024. The legislation aims to reinforce family values, increase paternal responsibility, and formally acknowledge the role of fathers and mothers in society.
Additionally, Mother’s Day is celebrated annually in Kyrgyzstan on the third Sunday of May.
