Today, ensuring the safety, social adaptation, and equal access to education for girls remains a pressing issue. What work is being carried out in this area by the Women’s Council at Osh State University? We spoke with the Chairwoman of the Council, Gulnara Seitkazyeva.

– What was the purpose of establishing the Women’s Council, and what are its main tasks?

– The Women’s Council was established to support female employees of the university, particularly female students, to create favorable conditions for their social and spiritual development and to ensure their safety. Its main tasks include preserving national values, providing moral education, fostering social and family responsibility, and paying special attention to safety and security issues.

– What activities were carried out during the past academic year?

– At the beginning of the academic year, traditional adaptation meetings were held in accordance with the work plan. These meetings are organized by the chairwomen of the Women’s Councils of each institute, faculty, and college of Osh State University. They are intended for first-year female students and focus on topics such as “Behavior in public places, dress culture, upbringing, and student safety.”

Subsequently, meetings were held at all faculties, institutes, and colleges with nutritionists, cosmetologists, law enforcement officers, and psychologists. Overall, these events are conducted on an annual basis.

In addition, we organized a regional forum entitled “The Role of Women in the Formation of Kyrgyz Statehood: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.” Within the framework of the forum, special recognition was given to women holding doctoral degrees and heroic mothers, and an open exchange of views took place among female students, teachers, and mothers. The “Ethno Photo Session” event, which highlighted national values, also generated great interest among both students and faculty members.

– What work has been done in the areas of health and safety?

– Meetings with gynecologists have become a tradition within the framework of the project “Today’s Girl – Tomorrow’s Mother.” A “Care” campaign was held in student dormitories, during which attention was paid to the health, living conditions, and psychological well-being of female students.

In addition, a meeting with urologists on the topic “Personal Hygiene of Male Students” was organized for male students, during which specialists answered questions openly. Overall, forums, campaigns, and training sessions are held on a regular basis.

– Special attention is being paid to the safety of girls…

– Yes, this issue is particularly relevant today. The growing volume of alarming and dangerous information on social networks is a cause for concern. Therefore, we regularly invite representatives of internal affairs bodies to hold direct meetings with students on issues related to girls’ safety. During these meetings, students receive information on security measures, are urged to remain vigilant, and are reminded to focus on their education.

All events are organized with the present and future well-being of female students in mind. However, I would especially highlight the adaptation meetings, as they help first-year students receive proper guidance, detailed information on safety, and rules of conduct in public places.

– Where can girls turn if they have questions or face difficulties?

– If female students encounter any questions or uncomfortable situations, they can directly contact the chairwomen of the Women’s Councils at their institute, faculty, or college. In addition, anonymous question-and-answer sessions are organized, particularly during meetings with gynecologists, to ensure that all concerns are addressed.

We have also organized a “Trust Hour” together with the Department of Psychology and Akchach Olmasovna. Female students can contact the Department of Psychology at any time to receive professional advice. Complete confidentiality is guaranteed.

– What work is being done to support female teachers and staff?

– Previously, cycling and swimming competitions were organized among female teachers. Currently, a special column titled “Our Female Teacher” has been launched in the “Nur” newspaper. In each issue, female teachers who have achieved high professional results are featured in order to recognize their achievements and enhance motivation.

In addition, events of various formats held in connection with Defender of the Fatherland Day have become a tradition.

– How are issues of financing events and attracting sponsors addressed?

– The activities of the Women’s Council receive comprehensive support from the university administration. Most events are implemented using the university’s internal resources and are sponsored by the trade union of Osh State University. Moreover, there are opportunities to attract additional support through cooperation with public organizations and partner institutions.

The Women’s Council of Osh State University is an integral part of the university’s social, educational, and cultural policy. Its work is aimed at ensuring the safety of female students, preserving national values, and educating a responsible, educated, and patriotic younger generation. There is no doubt that these initiatives will continue to expand in the future and bring tangible results for the university community.
