On April 24, Osh State University hosted a scientific and cultural evening marking the 60th anniversary of Abdymitalip Murzakmetov — a candidate of historical sciences, associate professor, writer, and ethnographer. The event brought together scholars from various higher education institutions in Osh, university faculty members, students, and close colleagues of the honoree.

The celebration began with a documentary film about Murzakmetov’s life and achievements. Vice-Rector for Research Affairs, Elzarbek Esharov, addressed the audience, extending congratulations on behalf of the academic community. He highlighted Murzakmetov’s contributions to education and scholarly work, and wished him continued success in inspiring and guiding the next generation of students and researchers.

Colleagues and former students also shared heartfelt remarks, celebrating his exemplary life and intellectual legacy. To commemorate the milestone, a six-volume compilation of Murzakmetov’s scholarly research was published. An exhibition featuring his works and a concert program enriched the event.

Murzakmetov is known for his in-depth lectures on topics such as Kyrgyz literary studies, ethnography, folklore, Western and Eastern literature, Manas studies, and the history of Kyrgyz culture. He currently serves as the head of the Department of Kyrgyz Literature at the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication at Osh State University. His academic output includes several textbooks, books, and over 200 publications spanning academic, journalistic, and popular science writing. He is also the founder of the university’s “Center for Japanese Culture” and, in 2022, established the “Kazakh Language and Culture” Center.
