Osh State University hosted an international scientific and practical conference today, April 29, marking the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. The event, titled “Kyrgyzstan during the Great Patriotic War,” brought together historians, military representatives, Collective Security Council members, local authorities, and faculty and students from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Russia.

During the plenary session, scholars, postgraduates, and students presented reports, followed by discussions in two sections: “Kyrgyzstan and the CIS countries during the Great Patriotic War” and “Language, Literature, History, Culture, Religion, Philosophy, Economics, Domestic and Foreign Policy of Eastern Countries: Past, Present, and Future.”

Zholdoshbek Botonoev, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, highlighted a major scientific project at Osh State University, “In the Footsteps of Compatriots Who Went Missing in the Great Patriotic War.” A 20-volume book detailing the names of 267,388 individuals who went to war has been compiled and is ready for publication. This list, sourced from military commissariat archives, includes over 140,000 people who died or went missing, along with those who returned. At the conference, several reports emphasized Kyrgyzstan’s significant contributions to the war effort, especially in relation to Victory Day.

The event also featured a photo exhibition showcasing newly discovered archival materials. The conference was organized by the Institute of Oriental Studies, the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Education and Science.
