On March 19, the Institute of Pedagogy, Arts, and Journalism hosted an interstudent competition, Sarmerden, under the theme “In the spring, on the Novruz holiday, our youth sings songs.”

During the event, talented young men and women showcased their skills by singing, dancing, sharing proverbs and riddles, and performing excerpts from the Manas epic, creating an engaging spectacle. By the evening’s conclusion, the judging panel declared the girls’ team the winner. Vice-Rector for Social Work and Youth Policy of Osh State University, Nurzhamal Mapaeva, commended the students for their active participation and, along with the jury members, presented them with certificates of honor.

The Sarmerden game was organized to promote unity and friendship among students, provide cultural entertainment, and preserve national traditions. Currently, various events celebrating Novruz are taking place across Osh State University.

Sarmerden is a traditional Kyrgyz folk game that combines elements of music, poetry, wit, and humor. It is often played in a festive setting, particularly during celebrations like Novruz, weddings, and other cultural gatherings. The game involves two teams, typically one of young men and the other of young women, engaging in a playful contest of songs, riddles, proverbs, and poetry.
