Osh State University has launched a Kyrgyz language course for foreigners through its inter-faculty department of Kyrgyz language. The course spans 72 hours and is conducted in a hybrid format, with some sessions held in-person and others online.
This initiative follows a similar program at Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature, where lecturers, graduate students, and undergraduate students participated. Twelve hours of the course were conducted offline, with the remainder to be offered online over the course of the year.
The training took place during the event “Language is a Mirror of the Nation,” held from September 26 to 28. Lecturers from Osh State University shared their expertise in Kyrgyz language instruction with their counterparts at Tashkent State University. Zuvaida Karazakova, head of the inter-faculty department, gave a lecture on “Comparative Grammar of Kyrgyz and Uzbek Languages.” Senior lecturers Gulzar Mamadieva, Bermet Zakirova, and Elmira Alisherova led interactive training sessions.
Additionally, the Chingiz Aitmatov Center for Kyrgyz Language and Culture, a joint initiative of the two universities, organized a literary and musical evening to celebrate the Kyrgyz language’s state status.
Karazakova noted that the Uzbek educators were receptive to the teaching methods used by the Osh State faculty. She also mentioned that as part of ongoing cooperation, lecturers from Tashkent State University will visit Osh State University on October 21, the Day of the Uzbek Language, to conduct a similar course. The collaboration will extend to research and experience exchange.
The event was hosted by the Uzbek Language Culture Center at Osh State University.
