The Faculty of Theology of Osh State University was established on September 22, 1993, based on an agreement between Osh State University and the Diyanet Foundation of the Republic of Türkiye. Its purpose is to contribute to the spiritual, scientific, and cultural development of the Kyrgyz Republic, enhance religious literacy in society, and train highly qualified theology specialists.

The activities of the Faculty of Theology are carried out in accordance with the educational legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic. Based on a cooperation agreement with Ankara University, religious subjects tailored to the faculty’s profile, as well as subjects specified in the state educational standards of Kyrgyzstan, are taught at the Department of Religious Studies and Humanities.

Since its establishment, the faculty has been engaged in organizing educational and scientific activities, improving the quality of religious education, and strengthening the spiritual values of society. The teaching staff consists of experienced scholars and specialists from Osh State University as well as academics from higher educational institutions in Türkiye who work under cooperation agreements.

The faculty operates through the Department of Religious Studies and Humanities. Since the 2012–2013 academic year, it has been training specialists in Theology within a two-tier higher education system.

Since the establishment of the faculty, the position of dean has been held by:


Avazbek Raimjanovich Asanov, Temir Astaevich Jorobekov, Asilbek Alievich Aliev, Samagan Abdyrazakovich Myrzaibrimov, Zailabidin Kasymovich Ajimamotov, and Meder Akparalievich Kadyrov.

Since June 20, 2025, Niyazaly Turdalievich Aripov has been serving as the Dean and continues to carry out this responsibility with dedication and diligence.

Currently, 14 lecturers work at the department. The academic staff consists of 7 associate professors, 1 senior lecturer, and 6 lecturers. Among them, 6 lecturers hold PhD degrees and 2 hold Candidate of Sciences degrees.

Alongside the in-depth study of Islamic sciences, special attention is given to broadening students’ worldviews, developing their scientific thinking, and increasing their social responsibility. The curriculum includes courses such as Aqeedah, Fiqh, Hadith, Tafsir, Islamic History, Arabic Language, Philosophy of Religion, Pedagogy, Psychology, and Sociology of Religion.

The faculty’s material and technical base meets modern requirements. Classrooms are equipped with multimedia equipment, interactive teaching tools, electronic libraries, and internet resources. Students actively participate in scientific research activities.

Mission of the Faculty:

The mission of the faculty is to train specialists and highly educated professionals in the field of religious enlightenment in our republic in accordance with contemporary requirements, to improve the quality of education through the use of innovative teaching technologies, and to prepare qualified specialists who can contribute to the proper dissemination of the universal values of religion among the people and enrich the spiritual world of individuals.

At the same time, one of the faculty’s main priorities is to promote spiritual education aimed at strengthening social harmony, tolerance, morality, and mutual respect within society. The faculty places special emphasis on broadening students’ worldviews alongside their religious education, developing their scientific thinking, and enabling them to properly assess religious processes in modern society. In addition to providing theoretical knowledge, the faculty creates conditions for students’ comprehensive development by helping them acquire practical skills, engage in scientific research activities, and actively participate in community affairs.

The goal of the faculty is to prepare professional specialists who meet modern educational requirements, are capable of integrating religious and humanitarian knowledge, conducting scientific research, objectively evaluating religious processes in society, and contributing to the spiritual development of the state.

Objectives of the Faculty:

• To provide students with high-quality religious and humanitarian education;

• To develop scientific research activities and support young researchers;

• To pay special attention to the spiritual, moral, and patriotic upbringing of students;

• To develop international cooperation and expand academic mobility opportunities;

• To conduct awareness-raising activities aimed at preventing religious extremism and radicalism;

• To maintain close relations with society and organize spiritual and educational activities.

The faculty actively cooperates with higher educational institutions of Kyrgyzstan and foreign countries in the fields of science and education, organizing guest lectures, seminars, and international conferences. In particular, its partnerships with universities in Türkiye and other countries of the Islamic world contribute significantly to the educational and professional development of students.
