Pedagogical education is more popular than the last year by 22%

The Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic would like to draw your attention to statistical data on the most popular occupations for university admission for the academic year 2022–2023.

The automated information system “Applicant Online” (https://2020.edu.gov.kg/) was used to select and enroll candidates for grant places in universities based on the results of the current year’s nationwide testing. Only admission to colleges of culture, art and to the specialization of physical culture and sports was subject to traditional entrance exams.

In total, 51,183 applicants took part in the nationwide testing in 2022. The average score of test takers in 2022 is 119.8 points. Scores equal to or higher than 110 were scored by 29,075 test participants, which is 57% of the total number of ORT participants.

For the 2022-2023 academic year, the threshold score for admission to universities for grant places, for all forms of education under a contract with payment of tuition fees is set as follows: for the main test - 110 points, and for all subject tests - 60 points each. For grant places in pedagogical areas, the threshold score for the main test was set at 115.

1918 grant places were granted for training in educational fields. Pedagogical areas are implemented in 17 public and 12 private educational organizations of higher professional education. 5138 students were admitted to study in pedagogical fields in 2022, a 22% increase from previous year (3984 students in 2021). In addition, it should be mentioned that while the average score on the major test of the All-Republican Testing for students enrolled in pedagogical specializations was approximately 180 points, the greatest score was reported at the level of 219 points.

Operational statistics indicate that the following are also in demand as of 09/09/2022:

  • IT specializations – 3201 students enrolled;
  • Humanitarian fields (such as philosophy, political science, psychology, journalism, philology, and linguistics) – 3116 students enrolled;
  • Economic education – 2200 students enrolled;
  • Medical specialties – 1996 students enrolled;
  • Jurisprudence– 1442 students enrolled;
  • Construction and architecture – 604 students enrolled;
  • Agriculture, manufacturing, mining, and energy – more than 3,000 students enrolled.

A total of 6,000 state educational grants were given out for the 2022–2023 academic year, of which 80 grants were used to fulfill obligations under international agreements, 50 grants were used to give out-of-competition admission to applicants with the highest ORT scores, 75 grants were given to ethnic Kyrgyz living abroad, and 30 grants for the children of persons who died in the events of 2002 in the Aksy district of the Jalal-Abad region, the April, May and June events of 2010, and persons with the status of “kayrylman”, 288 grants for applicants from among the disabled 1, 2 groups, persons equated in benefits to war veterans and invalids, disabled since childhood, disabled children, orphans and children left without parental care.

4,663 of the 6,000 state-funded educational grants were given to universities under the jurisdiction of the Kyrgyz Republic’s Ministry of Education and Science; the remaining places were funded by grants from other state agencies: the Ministry of Internal Affairs received 130 grants, the Ministry of Health received 358 grants, the Ministry of Culture, Information, and Tourism received 206 grants, the Ministry of Defense received 100 grants, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received 100 grants.
