It is customary for the Faculty of Russian Philology to host the Maslenitsa holiday at the end of February. Students, faculty members, schoolchildren from Osh, Russian teachers involved in the “Russian Teacher Abroad” project, and representatives of the Russian Public Foundation “Russian world” all attended.
The participants had a great day, dancing, singing Russian folk music, playing traditional games, and competing. Tables were also set with traditional Russian foods, the most prominent of which were pancakes, a sign of the sun and spring.
An effigy of Maslenitsa was burned at the conclusion of the celebration to signify the end of winter and the beginning of spring. The faculty and the “Russian world” foundation presented certificates of honor to active students.
