On June 13, Osh State University hosted a memorial volleyball tournament dedicated to the late Osmonali Karaev — an esteemed figure in physical culture and sports, an honored educator, and a master of sports.

The event brought together Karaev’s family, friends, colleagues, and volleyball teams from various universities. Competitions were held in two age categories: under 40 and over 40 years. Notably, young teachers who previously played for the national volleyball team of Kyrgyzstan also took part.

In the over-40 category, Osh State University claimed first place, followed by Osh State Pedagogical University in second, and a team from Osh region born in 1982 in third. In the under-40 category, Osh State University again took the top spot, while KUMU placed second and Osh Technological University came in third. Winners were awarded medals, certificates, and cash prizes by Absamat Sattarov, head of the university’s trade union.

The tournament was organized by Karaev’s colleagues and funded by the Osh State University trade union.

Osmonali Karaev, a master of sports in both volleyball and track and field, tragically passed away in an accident last year at the age of 42.
