The Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Zholdoshbek Botonoev, is in Brussels (Belgium) from 17 to 21 November. During his visit, he met with representatives of the European Union Directorate for International Cooperation and Civil Society in Central Asia.
At the meeting, Botonoev spoke about the progress of the project ‘Bridges of Friendship: Together Towards Peace through Mediation and Dialogue’, implemented by the Institute's Centre for Friendship, Tolerance, and Mediation. He also shared his plans for the future. This project, aimed at establishing peace in the Fergana Valley, was implemented in July, August, and September of this year with the financial support of the European Union.
During his visit, Zholdoshbek Botonoev met and held talks with representatives of the European Union's External Action Service (EEAS) and the European Union's Department of External Policy Instruments (FPI) for Central Asia, as well as with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the British organization Saferworld Europe, Jeremy Lester, the EU Special Representative for Foreign Affairs, Eduard Stipris, and former Member of the European Parliament and public figure, Frank Schwalba-Hoth.
After visiting the European Parliament, he agreed with one of the staff members, Ms. Papasotiriou Tienni Angeliki, to give guest lectures to students, postgraduates, and teachers at the Institute of Oriental Studies. The lectures will be held online.
In addition, the Centre for Friendship, Tolerance, and Mediation at the Institute of Oriental Studies successfully implemented a project worth a total of €6,000 in July, August, and September 2025, with the support of the European Union.
