On November 28, the Faculty of History and Law at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University hosted an event dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Smagul Saduakasov, a prominent figure of the early 20th-century Kazakh intelligentual.
Zholdoshbek Botonoev, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies at Osh State University, participated in the international scientific and practical conference titled “Smagul Saduakasov: Time and Legacy.” He delivered a scholarly report entitled “Victims of Repression in Kyrgyzstan: The Basmachi Movement, the Policy of Dekulakization, and Political Repression (1920s–1930s).”
In his presentation, he provided a scientific analysis of the historical causes of political repression in Kyrgyzstan, the conditions that shaped the development of the publishing movement, and the consequences of collectivization policies. His report also offered important conclusions based on newly discovered archival materials.
The event brought together historians, researchers, and public figures from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and several other countries.
