Scientists from Osh State University and Fergana State University have identified 14 species of fish in the Kempir-Abad basin
Scientists from the Department of Zoology, Ecology and Bioengineering of the Institute of Natural Sciences, Physical Education, Tourism and Agrarian Technologies of Osh State University and the Department of Zoology and General Biology of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Fergana State University organized a joint scientific expedition to the Kempir-Abad basin and identified 14 species of fish.
The expedition took place from July 30 to August 4. It was attended by Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Abdimannap Abdykaarov, PhD doctoral student Fatima Matkerimova, Doctors of Philosophy in Biological Sciences (PhD) Bakhtior Sheraliev, Obboskhon Azamov, PhD doctoral students Murodjon Rakhmonov, Sharofiddin Khalimov.
Field research was carried out in the lower reaches of the Kurshab, Kara-Darya, Zhazy, Zerger and Koldyuk rivers flowing into the reservoir. In addition, additional ichthyological observations were organized in the upper reaches of the Zhazy River, in the territory of the Kara-Shoro State Nature Park, in order to clarify the taxonomic status of the species Diptychus maculatus (spotted osman).
Samples were taken for molecular genetic studies to determine the taxonomic characteristics of two fish species identified during the expedition. They will be further studied in the laboratory. According to scientists, the list of 14 identified species did not include common carp, white silver carp, and swordfish, which are widespread in the Kempir-Abad reservoir.
As a result, the two universities agreed to expand cooperation in ichthyology and biodiversity research. It is planned to implement joint scientific projects, develop academic mobility of doctoral students, and publish joint articles in international scientific journals.
The purpose of the expedition was to study the diversity of fish species in the rivers and scientifically assess their current status.
