On April 14, French Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Nicolas Fay paid a visit to Osh State University, where he met with the university’s leadership and academic community, headed by Rector Kudaiberdi Kozhobekov. During the meeting, the Rector shared details about the university’s accomplishments and ongoing initiatives, as well as its current partnerships with French educational institutions.

Both sides exchanged ideas on enhancing cooperation between Kyrgyz and French universities, particularly in the areas of educational programs, scientific collaboration, and academic exchange for faculty and students. They also discussed initiatives to open French language centers with simplified learning approaches, upgrade the qualifications of French language instructors, and provide them with the necessary teaching materials.

Ambassador Fay expressed interest in increasing students’ awareness of French language learning opportunities and assisting them in accessing relevant courses. Following the official discussions, he engaged with French language instructors and students, and attended a cultural concert program organized by the university.

At present, two French volunteer teachers are working at the university on a one-year assignment, supporting French language instruction.

Osh State University signed a partnership agreement with the University of Poitiers in February 2023. As part of this collaboration, selected student groups are currently studying French with the goal of reaching a B2 proficiency level within two years, after which they will be eligible to apply for scholarship programs in France.
