The Third International Symposium of Imam Sarakhsi is being held at OshSU

11 October, Osh State University is hosting the third international symposium ‘The Legacy of Sarakhsi’, organised jointly by the Faculty of Theology of Osh State University and the Institute of Islamic Sciences of Pamukkale University.

The event is dedicated to the renowned Central Asian religious scholar and great jurist Imam Sarakhsi.

The symposium is attended by the chairman of the board of directors of the GAIE Foundation, Professor Mustafa Cevat Aksit, the chairman of the Foundation Mehmet Aksit, the rector of Pamukkale University, Professor Mahmud Gungor, the renowned religious scholar of Uzbekistan Satmurat Primov, Mufti of Kyrgyzstan Abdulaziz Kari Zakirov, and Rector Kudayberdi Kozhobekov. The symposium will also be attended by scholars, theologians, postgraduate students, and students from Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan.

According to historical sources, Imam Sarakhsi spent part of his life in the city of Uzgen for political reasons. From 1073 to 1087, he was imprisoned, where he taught his students for 15 years. His students recorded his lessons, and these works were later compiled into a 30-volume book entitled Mabsut. This outstanding work was first translated from Arabic into Turkish by Turkish professor Mustafa Cevat Aksit over a period of 15 years.
