The 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkay, the Nobel Committee in Stockholm has announced.
This is not the author's first success. He previously won the International Booker Prize in 2015, the US National Book Award (for translated literature) in 2019 and the Kossuth Prize, Hungary's highest state award, in 2004. Renowned writer Susan Sontag called him ‘the contemporary Hungarian master of the apocalypse.’
It should be noted that in 2024, the prize was awarded to South Korean writer Han Gan, whose works were recognised for ‘reflecting historical trauma and the fragility of human life.’
