The united community of scientists from three higher educational institutions (Rostov University, Rostov Pedagogical Institute and Osh Pedagogical Institute) provided great practical assistance to the national economy. With the beginning of the war, despite the difficult life situation, the research activities of the educational institution began to be aimed at solving problems associated with front-line orders. Between 1942 and 1944, scientists organized 27 scientific expeditions to study various problems of the national economy. Each faculty and department tried to study the problems of the region in their own scientific areas.

Faculty of Biology, under the leadership of Associate Professor B. Dobrovolsky, were growing potatoes, wild garlic, cotton, etc. They undertook research to increase plant productivity and eliminate pests that harm crops and domestic animals. Agrotechnical assistance was provided to collective farms of the Molotovsky (now Nookat), Leilek and Kara-Suu districts with the help of gardens of the Osh region and the regional department of agriculture.

Geologists and chemists studied the composition of salt deposits, coal reserves and the possibility of processing it into coke in the Osh region. A group of geologists from Rostov University, consisting of Associate Professors P.Y. Baranov, I.A. Shamray and P.V. Miroshnikov, studied the mineral resource complex of the Nookat region and discovered reserves of iron paints with high quality.

Historians and linguists were engaged in political and educational work, conducted classes in schools, and gave lectures to collective farmers. As a result of scientific research and methodological activities of Rostov University staff, 61 manuscripts of 80-90 pages each were prepared for publication. In 1942-44, despite the difficult military situation, 3 university scientists managed to defend scientific dissertations.
