Abdizhapar Akkulov, Director of the Consulting Center for the Conservation of Mountain Ecosystems and Green Innovations at Osh State University, participated on the March 14 meeting of the “Alliance” faction of the Jogorku Kenesh. During the session, he shared insights and experiences regarding the “Kurbu-Tash Forest” project, which the university is implementing in collaboration with USAID and the Aga Khan Foundation.

The project originated in April-May 2017 when university faculty and students conducted silvicultural and bioremediation research at the site of a landslide in Kurbu-Tash village, located in Uzgen district. This led to the development of the “Kurbu-Tash Forest” scientific and production initiative. A 100-hectare area was fenced off, with approximately 50 hectares currently being cultivated with various tree and shrub seedlings.

During the meeting, discussions also covered the state of the country’s glaciers, along with strategies for their conservation and maintaining ecological stability.
