Kudaiberdi Kojobekov, the rector of Osh State University, met with the participants of the international ethnographic expedition “From Altai to Chon-Alai”. The expedition performed research between July 14 and July 22. OshSU contributed funding to assist the research. Scientists from Altai State University, Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn, National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, Osh State University, Kyrgyz State University named after I. Arabayev, and Kyrgyz Medical Academy participated in the anthropological trip.

Scientists presented information about the expedition’s findings and accomplishments at the meeting. The Rector presented Osh State University’s present and upcoming work schedules.

“We conducted study on priceless material and immaterial heritage, then collected, maintained, and restored them. Invaluable field materials on crafts, weaving, medicine, rituals, and customs have been gathered. We visited the folk museums and the villages of Kara-Teyit, Kara-Myk, Chak, Jash-Tilek, Jar-Bashy, Daroot-Korgon, and Sary-Mogol in Chon-Alai region. Moreover, we went to the Cholok-Kayin grassland. Chon-Alai is the most distant area of Kyrgyzstan, and it is here that traditional culture, customs, and rituals that are already vanishing from other areas are better preserved. The most recent expedition to Chon-Alai in order to document the local culture took place between 1953 and 1956,” stated Tazhibay Aitbaev, the head of the international ethnographic expedition “From Altai to Chon-Alai”.
