Climate change, the rational use of natural resources, and ensuring environmental sustainability are important issues receiving global attention. In this regard, combining science with practice is of particular importance. The Mountain Ecosystem Protection and Green Innovations Consulting Center operating under Osh State University combines scientific research with real projects and carries out activities aimed at the sustainable development of regions. The Center’s Director, Abdyjapar Akkulov, spoke about the “Innovative Nursery” project.

From Science to Production, From Ideas to Sustainable Developmen
Climate change, environmental security, and food security are among the most pressing issues of today. In this direction, the Mountain Eco Consulting Center established under Osh State University not only conducts scientific research but also strives to apply its results in practice.
“Our team includes scientist-researchers and practicing specialists from OshSU and other higher educational institutions working in the fields of biology, geography, agriculture and forestry, geoecology, economics, medicine, pedagogy, and other disciplines. Our goal is to direct scientific potential toward regional development, solving environmental problems, and ensuring the sustainable development of society.”

The “Innovative Nursery” Is One of the Center’s Largest Projects
This project is financed within the framework of OshSU’s “Development of Science and Industry Cooperation” program and began on September 1, 2025. The project will continue until September 1, 2026.
The project aims to establish innovative orchards on an area of 2.5 hectares and create a nursery producing seedlings for greening initiatives. Several important objectives are included. Among them are supporting state initiatives to increase green areas in the country, creating an additional source of income for the university through future fruit production, supplying cities and villages with quality seedlings, and providing a practical training base for students.

Trees Were Planted on Land in Bash-Bulak Rural Area of Kara-Suu District
Cooperation agreements were concluded between OshSU, the Osh Forestry Enterprise, and private partners, and trees were planted on 3.5 hectares of land in the Bash-Bulak rural area of Kara-Suu District. These include 400 walnut trees, 400 cocoon cherry trees, 200 various fruit trees, and 200 grapevines.
Currently, the nursery is cultivating seedlings of trees widely used in landscaping, such as willow, poplar, maple, ash, acacia, catalpa, chestnut, pine, and juniper, as well as shrubs including rosehip, pistachio, and currant.

The Public Is Actively Participating in Environmental Initiative
We strive to actively involve local residents, youth, and government institutions in environmental initiatives. For example, on March 29, 2026, a tree-planting campaign was organized at the Innovative Nursery, attended by OshSU staff, representatives of government institutions, and local residents.
Such events make a significant contribution to developing environmental culture and increasing green areas.
Over the past two years, meetings, discussions, and round tables involving local communities have been held in all districts of Osh and Batken regions. They were dedicated to climate change adaptation, the development of mountainous areas, and food security issues.
At these events, our specialists shared the experience of the Innovative Nursery and presented recommendations for the development of a green economy.

The Project Will Create a New Source of Income for OshSU
As a result of the project’s implementation, scientific data on the ecological condition of the region will be collected, and recommendations for the conservation and improvement of natural resources will be developed. In addition, products produced in the nursery will be brought to the market, creating a new source of income for OshSU.
Furthermore, through the Innovative Nursery, the production of high-quality seedlings will be established, creating opportunities to increase green areas and promote environmental culture.
