The international poetry festival "Green World", dedicated to the 85th anniversary of renowned poet Zholon Mamytov, concluded with a closing ceremony on May 29 at the Osh National Drama Theater.
The event brought together notable figures, including Osh city mayor Zhenishbek Toktorbayev, Minister of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy Mirbek Mambetaliev, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, the poet’s wife and acclaimed Kyrgyz writer Mendi Mamazairova, as well as other dignitaries, poets, writers, and local residents.
As part of the ceremony, Sultan Raev awarded the TURKSOY gold medal to Osh State University rector Kudaiberdi Kozhobekov, recognizing the university’s vital role in supporting and organizing the festival at a high level.
Young poets from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan received special honors for their participation. The festival also featured performances of Mamytov’s poetry in various Turkic languages, interpreted and celebrated by folk artists and cultural figures.
Zholon Mamytov was born in 1940 in Toleykon village, Kara-Suu district, Osh region. His literary career began with a poem published in the regional newspaper Lenin Jolu in 1954, followed by works featured in national publications. He passed away at the age of 48.
