On June 19, Osh State University held an online meeting to discuss a new project focused on the early detection of cancer. During the session, a presentation was given, and details about the planned activities for identifying cancer cases early—particularly in the southern region—were shared. The meeting also addressed the World Bank’s social and environmental policies and standards relevant to the project.
Participants included T. Erkinbekov, a public and social relations specialist from the Department for Project Implementation and Coordination under the Ministry of Education and Science; F. Ryskulueva, a senior specialist from the Academic Innovation Fund Secretariat; N. Toktogulova, a higher education specialist; and B. Bekibaeva, an operations specialist. Representing Osh State University were Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs E. Esharov, Medical Clinic Director Zh. Imetova, and other university officials.
The project has been in development since 2021. Once approved, a strategic agreement will be signed. As part of the initiative, a Higher Education Research Center and a Breast Cancer Early Detection Center will be established at the university's Medical Center. The project has an estimated budget of $4 million.
This initiative falls under the "KIVO" (Quality Improvement in Higher Education) project, which is managed by the Ministry of Education and funded by the World Bank.
