On 10 October, in honour of International Day of the Girl Child, Osh State University hosted a forum entitled ‘The Beauty of the Universe – Women.’ The event was organised to highlight the role of girls in society, in building families and raising the younger generation, as well as to draw attention to the pressing issue of violence.
Presentations dedicated to Girls' Day were given by public figure and member of the legendary Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, Chair of the Osh Regional Council on Women and Family Affairs Aikokul Myrzakarimova, member of the Osh City Council Aizhan Toguzakova, founder of the Lady Clinic maternity hospital, obstetrician-gynaecologist Aikanyish Kadyrbekova, activist and head of the Santerra-Yug organisation Zhyldyz Turatbekova, and representative of the Republican Training Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Lilia Khafizova. Participants took part in interactive discussions and interesting games and enjoyed a concert programme.
The forum was attended by Nurzhamal Mapaeva, Vice-Rector for Public Relations and Youth Policy at Osh State University, Gulnara Seitkazyeva, Chair of the Women's Council, Zhanysh Zhusupbekov, Chair of the Youth Affairs Committee of the Osh City Council, guest speakers and women aged 14 to 35. The event was jointly organised by the Girls' Council under the Osh City Youth Affairs Committee, the Migration Resource Centre and Osh State University.
Let us recall that International Day of the Girl Child is a day dedicated to the specific problems and threats faced by female children, celebrated on 11 October and proclaimed by the UN in 2012.
