During the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov met with Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

They worked on issues of cooperation in the field of prevention of the consequences of climate change, preservation and development of cultural and historical heritage.

The President stated that Kyrgyzstan earned a great deal of experience and the essential expert ability in the areas of education, research, and culture during the years of cooperation with UNESCO.

He focused on expanding cooperation in the issues of climate change in mountainous countries, strengthening scientific research and creating new institutions and directions to increase knowledge about the state of glaciers in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Kyrgyz side is interested in sustaining its national and international cooperation with UNESCO on issues of protection and promotion of cultural heritage, according to President Sadyr Japarov.

With reference to the fact that on November 30, 2021, Kyrgyzstan submitted a proposal to introduce the epic “Manas” manuscript in the version of the storyteller Sagymbai Orozbakov, the head of state expressed his satisfaction with the revival of UNESCO’s “World Heritage” program and added that the Kyrgyz Republic strives to contribute to the development of intercultural cooperation.

Audrey Azoulay, the director general of UNESCO, expressed interest in establishing and enhancing relations with Kyrgyzstan.

Sadyr Japarov has been invited by Audrey Azoulay to attend the regular meeting of the Executive Council of UNESCO, of which Kyrgyzstan is an active member, at the organization’s headquarters the following year.

The invitation was welcomed by President Sadyr Japarov, who said that Kyrgyzstan is rich in historical sites and is eager to work with UNESCO on educational projects.
