On 18 October, a delegation from Hungary led by Mr. Laszlo Daroczi, Deputy Ambassador of Hungary in the Kyrgyz Republic, visited OshSU and had a meeting with the university's rector Kudaiberdi Kozhobekov. The development of the Department of Hungarian Studies at OshSU was negotiated by the sides in accordance with the inter-governmental agreement and the inter-departmental plan to increase the Kyrgyz-Hungarian political, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation.

The formal letter exchange between OshSU and the Hungarian Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic earlier in March 2021 led to the opening of a center for the Hungarian language and culture at OshSU's Faculty of International Relations.

The center aims to strengthen links between the Kyrgyz and Hungarian sides on the cultural, scientific, and educational fronts. Additionally, the center will help Hungary and the Kyrgyz Republic create and grow their inter-university relationships.

David Kiraly, a lecturer from Hungary, is currently in charge of giving courses on the Hungarian language and culture. Besides, three students from the Faculty of International Relations are studying in Hungary for the 2022–2023 academic year as a part of the Hungaricum program.

It is intended to open a specialization of Hungarian studies with the transformation of the center into the department of Hungarian studies. OshSU takes every attempt to connect with universities in Hungary.
