Achievements and Strategic Initiatives of Osh State University for Academic Advancement and Global Recognition

Based on the decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic dated July 18, 2022, Osh State University was granted “Special Status” among the country”s top 5 higher education institutions. This status granted the university financial and administrative autonomy, starting from the establishment of educational program standards. Additionally, the university was tasked with breaking into the top thousand in the QS ranking. To achieve this, a strategic program titled “Sustainable Development Model of OshSU for 2023-2026” was developed, along with a roadmap consisting of 7 strategic priorities.

OshSU collaborates with over 300 universities globally, having signed more than 300 cooperation agreements in the past academic year. Over 700 students and postgraduates, along with 300 faculty members, received education and exchanged experiences in foreign universities with which the university signed agreements for academic mobility.

The university actively pursues a position in the QS global ranking, as international recognition requires participation in independent accreditation and rankings. The university has also entered the top three best universities in Central Asia according to the Eurasian ranking “IAAR EUR” for 2022-2023. It successfully underwent institutional accreditation for 7 years.

OshSU stands as one of the largest educational institutions in terms of the number of faculty members with academic degrees, employing over 10% of the total number of candidates and doctors of science in the country. In the academic year 2022-2023, dissertations of 4 doctors of science and 19 candidates of science were defended.

Currently, OshSU comprises 2 institutes, 17 faculties, 1 higher school, 1 center for postgraduate and continuous medical education, 6 secondary professional educational institutions, 1 lyceum, 1 primary educational center, 30 educational-methodical, cultural-aesthetic, and resource centers, 10 dormitories, and 2 medical clinics. The university hosts approximately 50,000 students, with over 13,000 coming from various countries.

OshSU's primary goal is to become a world-class university and make a significant contribution to the country's development in the field of education and scientific research.
