Duyshon Shamаtov is a well-known graduate of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the Osh State Pedagogical Institute (now Osh State University), and a professor of the Graduate School of Education at Nazarbayev University in Astana.
Knowledge, and only knowledge, makes a person free and great
These are not just words. Everyone remembers their youth, their happy student years. From the height of today, Duyshon Shamаtov turns to his Alma Mater, the nest of education, from where he flew into the big world. And on the occasion of the university’s anniversary, he immerses himself in memories and shares his guidance with today’s youth.
10 years of my life are connected with OshSU
In 1986, after completing the 10th grade, I entered the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the Osh State Pedagogical Institute. After completing the first year, I went to serve in the army. After fulfilling my civic duty, I continued my education. In 1993, I was offered to stay at the faculty as a lecturer. Then I studied at the master’s level in Karachi, and pursued my doctorate at the University of Toronto in Canada, and worked for another 5 years at my alma mater.
One of the best universities in Central Asia
This opportunity to open up the world was provided to me by my alma mater. Today, Osh State University is a universally recognized center of education, science, and culture, a well-known forge of personnel, highly qualified modern specialists in a wide range of fields, one of the best universities not only in Kyrgyzstan but also in the Central Asian region.
It is important for the youth to receive quality education
While working at Nazarbayev University, I try to find time to provide assistance and exchange my experience in Kyrgyzstan. For instance, I meet with colleagues at universities and schools, conduct seminars, trainings, courses on modern teaching methods, syllabus writing, assessment methods, academic integrity, and publish books in the Kyrgyz language. I am proud of what I do and always ready to share my knowledge and experience, to contribute to the development of the education system in Kyrgyzstan because the prosperity of any country depends on education.
Bridge of Knowledge
I am delighted to consider myself a bridge in a significant sense between countries, cultures, education systems, advanced ideas, and their combination and interaction. For instance, in the summer of 2023, at Lake Issyk-Kul, the administration and the trade union committee of OshSU organized courses for lecturers. Over the course of 5 days, I endeavored to share my knowledge and experience on quantitative, qualitative, and mixed research methods. I believe that these and other interactions with the university led to my being awarded the title of “Honorary Professor of OshSU”.
Additionally, when 35-40 students from OshSU come annually for semester-long studies at the Eurasian National University named after L.N. Gumilyov, I always meet with them, show them around the city, introduce them to Nazarbayev University, and generate even greater interest in education. I would really like to see our youth educated.
For close collaboration and fruitful work, I have been awarded the badges “Excellence in Education of the Kyrgyz Republic” and “Altynsarin” by the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan, recognized as the winner of various nominations such as “Best Lecturer of Nazarbayev University,” and honored with the title of “Honorary Professor” by Talas State University. Recognition and fair assessment of your work give strength and motivation for further fruitful endeavors.
The development of OshSU will contribute to Kyrgyzstan’s success in the global arena
My friends and like-minded colleagues work and study at OshSU. Today, OshSU confidently moves towards integration into the global educational space, striving to transform into a university of the future. All the successes and achievements of the university hold special significance for me. I rejoice and take pride in all of them.
Nowadays, universities largely determine the future of modern society. Therefore, the development of OshSU will shape the future of Kyrgyzstan. From the bottom of my heart, I congratulate my alma mater on its 85th anniversary!
