On January 23, the Rector of Osh State University, Kudaiberdi Kozhobekov, met with Eduard Kubatov, the President of the Kyrgyz Federation of Mountaineering and Rock Climbing. During the meeting, the two parties signed a memorandum aimed at training young people in sports tourism and mountain guiding.

The initiative seeks to foster development in the southern region of Kyrgyzstan. Plans are underway to establish a professional mountaineering section at Osh State University, with implementation set to begin this year. Renowned coaches from the Federation of Mountaineering and Rock Climbing will visit the university to train students, and all necessary facilities will be provided to support the program. “At Osh State University, we will train the first Kyrgyz mountaineering athletes and coaches,” said Eduard Kubatov, expressing gratitude to the university leadership for supporting the initiative.

Before the signing ceremony, Kubatov engaged in discussions with students from the Institute of Natural Sciences, Physical Education, Tourism, and Agricultural Technologies, sharing plans for the future.

Eduard Kubatov is a distinguished figure in Kyrgyzstan, holding the title of Knight of the Order of Manas (III degree) and a gold medal from the National Olympic Committee of Kyrgyzstan. He is also the first Kyrgyz climber to summit Everest (8,848 m) and was listed in the Guinness Book of Records in 2024. Currently, he leads the Kyrgyz Federation of Mountaineering and Rock Climbing.
