A training program focused on developing designer handicrafts using local natural materials has commenced at the Institute of Pedagogy, Art, and Journalism at Osh State University.

The two-day training session brings together 30 artisans under the age of 45 and is led by designer and faculty member Zuura Turdubaeva. Participants will gain skills in merging traditional Kyrgyz crafts with contemporary design, enabling them to create high-quality, culturally inspired products that appeal to tourists.

The event is part of a broader project to support the craft industry. Sharipa Tashkulova, Deputy Chairperson of the Kyrgyzstan Council of Craftsmen in Osh, noted that 400 artisans from seven regions and two major cities are expected to take part in the initiative. The project will also feature competitions, with winners earning opportunities to study in Korea.

This project aims to utilize local raw materials to produce high-quality tourist-friendly products,” said Tashkulova. She added that earlier this year, in September, eight artisans completed a three-month training program in Jeonju, Korea. The goal now is to extend these opportunities across all regions of Kyrgyzstan.

Implemented in collaboration with Korea, the project seeks to enhance the country’s handicraft industry while boosting its tourism appeal.
