On July 2, a delegation from Kazakhstan’s L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University met with Osh State University’s leadership, headed by Rector Kudaiberdi Kozhobekov, to explore new avenues of cooperation.
The visiting delegation included Aitkurman Shalkhybaev, Chief Specialist for International Cooperation with Foreign Citizens, Gulmira Abdimaulen, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs, and Symbat Akhmetova, Head of the Museum of the History of Education. They proposed expanding the Kazakh Language and Culture Center at Osh State University starting from the new academic year. Additionally, they discussed launching new academic programs in artificial intelligence, tourism, and ecology, which would be supported by unilateral diplomas issued by the Eurasian National University.
The meeting also addressed ongoing and future collaboration in education, scientific research, and academic mobility. Both sides acknowledged the success of joint educational initiatives, particularly the dual-degree programs that have been developed over the years.
Leaders from Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are scheduled to meet in Bishkek this August and are expected to sign an intergovernmental agreement on education, which is anticipated to deepen bilateral cooperation in the academic and scientific spheres.
Cooperation between the two universities has been growing steadily. In 2022, Osh State University opened the Kazakh Language and Culture Branch, followed by the opening of the Kyrgyz Language and Culture Center at the Eurasian National University in 2023. To date, the institutions have signed agreements on five bachelor's and four master's double-degree programs. Currently, 85 students and graduate students are enrolled in these programs, which involve two years of study at each university.
“Osh State University has been working with the Eurasian National University since 2018. More than 500 students have participated in academic mobility programs during this time. A formal agreement on dual-degree programs was signed in 2022,” said Ainur Rahimberdi kyzy, Director of the Eurasian National University’s branch at Osh State University.
