Academician Bektemir Murzubraimov Celebrates His 85th Anniversary

On December 9, Our University celebrated the 85th birthday of Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, and Professor Bektemir Murzubraimov.

The event brought together representatives of local authorities, the regional council of elders, scholars, cultural figures, contemporaries, classmates, students, and members of the school community.

The celebration began with a video presentation dedicated to the life and achievements of the academician. Guests highlighted his significant contributions to the development of Kyrgyz science, education, and society. A concert program featuring talented students of Osh State University was also presented.

In his congratulatory remarks, University Rector Kudaiberdi Kozhobekov noted that during Murzubraimov’s leadership from 1998 to 2005, Osh State University saw major progress in education, scientific research, construction, and infrastructure development. He emphasized that the academician is known as the initiator and founder of many important initiatives in the university’s history.

During the event, Professors Gulbadan Matieva and Taasilkan Zhumabaeva presented papers titled “Academician Bektemir Murzubraimov’s Contribution to the Education System of Osh State University and the Kyrgyz Republic.” Professor Taasilkan Zhumabaeva also delivered a paper titled “Bektemir Murzubraimov: A Socio-Political Figure and Patriot,” while Professor Abdurashit Nizamiyev presented “The Scientific Work of Academician Bektemir Murzubraimov: Successful Research, Implemented Ideas, and Major Achievements.”

Bektemir Murzubraimov was born on December 12, 1940, in the village of Nichke-Sai in the Uzgen District. Over his career, he served as senior lecturer, associate professor, head of the chemistry department, and vice-rector of the Osh Pedagogical Institute. In 1986, he became dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Geography. From 1988 to 1990, he served as secretary of the party committee and later dean in 1990. From 1993 to 1998, he was rector of Osh Technological University, and from 1998 to 2005, rector of Osh State University. He significantly strengthened the university’s material and technical base and improved the quality of education. He was elected to the Jogorku Kenesh three times and made notable contributions to education in Central Asia.

His academic legacy includes more than 300 scientific articles, 20 textbooks, and monographs. Over 30 researchers have defended their dissertations under his supervision. The academician has also played an active role in public service and has been awarded the Order of Manas (3rd class), the CIS Order of Friendship, and several scientific honors.
