Special Status: What Did Osh State University Achieve in 2025?
 

Based on the Decree of the President Sadyr Japarov, Osh State University was granted a special status. This status provided the university with broad autonomy in governance, financing, and the educational process. The university gained the opportunity to independently manage its internal structure, personnel policy, educational programs, and financial affairs.

What Has OshSU Achieved in 2025 Thanks to Its Special Status?

WHAT PLACE DOES OSH STATE UNIVERSITY HOLD IN THE GLOBAL UNIVERSITY RANKINGS?

The year 2025 was successful for Osh State University. OshSU ranked 316th out of 1,526 universities included in the QS Rankings Asia 2026, and 22nd out of 74 universities in Central Asia.

The university is confidently moving toward the University 4.0 model, successfully implementing an innovative system of education–science–industry–commercialization, focusing research activities on solving socio-economic problems of the city and the region. The system of dual education is actively practiced. Independent standards, academic and financial autonomy have been established.

The sustainable development model of Osh State University is successfully implemented during 2023–2026. Dual degree programs with international partners have expanded.

In 2022, universities were included in the QS Sustainability Ranking, where Osh State University ranked 1251st in environmental and social impact and 1107th in governance. Overall, it entered the TOP-1500 universities. Previously, the university received 4 stars in the QS Stars study.

The main advantage of Osh State University is the commercialization of scientific projects and investments in innovation. Our university was recognized as a university confidently advancing toward global rankings.

WHAT IS OSHSU DOING ON THE PATH TO TRANSFORMATION INTO A FOURTH-GENERATION UNIVERSITY?

The university successfully integrates education–science–industry–commercialization. For example, the IRCAPS Research Center has been opened to study air pollution and its impact on health. Measuring devices will be installed inside and outside homes. Scientists from Tokyo will visit the center and conduct research jointly with OshSU specialists.

Another project is the Early Cancer Diagnostics Center, which will begin operation at the new medical clinic of OshSU. New programs in oncology, radiology, and medical informatics will be launched for students and medical personnel. Modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and bioinformatics will be used, and databases and analytical systems will be created.

Currently, the Satellite Analysis and Remote Sensing Center, the Central Asia Critical Minerals Innovation Center, and the Consulting Center for the Conservation of Mountain Ecosystems and Green Innovations are actively functioning.

2025: 351 ARTICLES PUBLISHED IN SCOPUS

More than 10% of Kyrgyzstan’s leading scientists work at Osh State University.

In 2025, 5 doctoral and 39 candidate dissertations were defended, increasing the total number of PhD and Doctoral degree holders to 600.

In 2025 alone, 351 articles by OshSU scientists were published in journals indexed in Scopus. From 2021 to 2025, this number increased sixfold, reaching 857 articles. OshSU scientists rank 4th in Kyrgyzstan by number of scientific publications. Their works are published in leading Q1, Q2, and Q3 journals.

The impact factor of the journal Bulletin of Osh State University continues to grow, and scientific achievements are reaching a global level. Over the past five years, 51 million soms were allocated to internal grants for research projects. In the 2025–2026 academic year, 30 innovative projects were implemented, including 3 national and 8 international projects.

Osh State University integrates production and research projects according to the University 4.0 model and has signed 8 agreements.

2025: 84 UNIQUE SURGERIES PERFORMED AT THE MEDICAL CLINIC

Kidney transplantation, heart stent implantation, and closure of congenital defects—these are unique surgeries performed at the university clinic this year. Two kidney transplants were carried out jointly with Russian specialists. In November, a liver transplant was successfully performed. For the first time, a cardiac pacemaker was implanted.

Endovascular surgeries were performed on 82 patients, 6,000 patients received outpatient treatment, 6,685 employees and students obtained medical certificates, and 1,800 students underwent preventive examinations. More than 2,000 patients were treated in the therapy department, and 105 critically ill patients received care in intensive care.

Within the “Health Caravan” project, doctors provided free medical care to about 1,000 rural residents monthly.

A modern 7-story medical clinic is under construction and will be completed in 2026.

ALMOST 100 OSHSU STUDENTS STUDY UNDER DUAL DEGREE PROGRAMS

More than 20 dual degree programs are currently operating. Over 100 students are enrolled. Cooperation is established with universities in Russia, Kazakhstan, and China across 22 specialties.

More than 10,000 international students from near and far abroad study at OshSU. 41 foreign professors worked at OshSU in 2024–2025.

OSH SU BUSINESS PARK ATTRACTED OVER 3 MILLION SOMS IN INVESTMENTS

In 2025, 21 startup teams were supported. 602 students received training, 51 startups operate successfully, and 89 jobs were created. In 2025, 14 new startups attracted 3,265,950 soms.

DIGITAL PLATFORMS LAUNCHED

The MyEDU digital platform, MOOC portal, video studio, and automated certificate issuance system next.oshsu.kg were fully implemented.

CONSTRUCTION AND INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

The “Yiman” Lyceum and 100-seat kindergarten were renovated. A 7-story medical clinic, 9-story dormitory, and new practice centers are under construction.
