Seminar at Osh State University Aims to Boost Kyrgyz Wikipedia Content
In a bid to enrich the Kyrgyz section of Wikipedia, Osh State University has hosted a two-day training seminar titled “Systematic Development of the Kyrgyz Wikipedia,” drawing participation from both faculty members and students.
The Wikipedia stands as a comprehensive online encyclopedia, boasting articles in more than 300 languages. However, despite its extensive reach, the Kyrgyz language content remains relatively limited. With daily views surpassing 20,000 and monthly views peaking at 1.5 million, there is a pressing need to enhance the representation of Kyrgyz language and culture on this platform.
Participants are engaged in tasks such as documenting the histories of their educational institutions and composing biographies of notable scholars, to contribute these articles to Kyrgyz Wikipedia.
Organized in collaboration with Kyrgyz Wikipedia, the seminar aims to empower participants to actively contribute to the expansion of Kyrgyz-language content on the platform. With the workshop coming to a close today, on February 7th, the hope is that the efforts invested in this endeavor will pave the way for a more robust and inclusive representation of Kyrgyz culture and knowledge within the digital sphere.
