On 12 June, Osh State University hosted a volleyball tournament marking the 80th birthday of the university’s distinguished veteran, Adilbek Salibaev.
The competition brought together players over 40 years-old from several higher‑education institutions in Osh. The combined squads of Osh State University and Osh State Pedagogical University shared first place, while Osh Technological University finished third.
Born in Borbash village, Nookat district, Salibaev has served as head of OshSU’s physical‑education department since 2005 and is currently an associate professor in the inter‑faculty Department of Physical Education No. 1. Under his guidance, the OshSU student team captured consecutive titles at the Universiade tournaments from 2005 to 2008.
Salibaev also founded and coached the university’s women’s volleyball team, leading them to top finishes at regional and national competitions. His dedication and organizational skills continue to inspire younger generations.
Together with his wife, the 80‑year‑old mentor has raised eight children and is now the proud grandfather of 31 grandchildren and 11 great‑grandchildren.
