The GEM-SILKWAY international project, which brings together over 17 global partners, held its 2025 summer school from June 22 to 27 in Tashkent. The sessions were hosted by Mirzo Ulugbek Uzbek National University and Tashkent Technical University.

Participants included Maksat Totobaev, Head of the Rating Department at Osh State University; Timur Paizildaev, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of International Medicine; Zilola Rakhimova; and students Aizhan Akysheva and Askar Mamadaliev.

Upon completion of the program, all participants received certificates, while students were awarded three academic credits in relevant disciplines.

The GEM-SILKWAY initiative seeks to explore concepts like sustainable and human development from an intercultural perspective. This year’s event was supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and was held within the framework of the Central Asia + Italy (5+1) initiative.

A key highlight was the roundtable titled “Common Horizons: A Common Vision for the Transition to Green Energy”, held on June 24. Notable attendees included Italy’s Minister Plenipotentiary Federico Falli, Ambassador Piergabrielle Papadia de Bottini, and scholars from the University of Milan - Bicocca, Maurizio Acciarri and Silvana Stefani. Delegates from Central Asian nations also participated, emphasizing the importance of continued dialogue on green energy under the 5+1 format.

The summer school program featured lectures, discussions with international experts, cultural activities, and excursions. It is revised each year to reflect current global developments.

In 2024, the summer school took place at Issyk-Kul Lake in partnership with Osh State University, N. Gumilev Eurasian National University, and the University of Milan - Bicocca.
