The President Sadyr Japarov and UN Secretary General António Guterres exchanged greetings before to the opening of the general discussion.

In the opening remarks of the general discussions of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, the President Sadyr Japarov discussed the conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border caused by Tajikistan’s armed attack on Kyrgyzstan.

  • On September 14-15-16, 2022, a large-scale military conflict took place in the south of Kyrgyzstan;
  • Despite all previously negotiated agreements, the Tajik side attacked cross-border and civilian objects along the entire perimeter of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border;
  • Great material damage was caused to civilian and military objects: houses, administrative buildings, schools, border posts;
  • Material damage can be compensated. However, you cannot compensate our brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country, and the civilians who were fired upon;
  • Given that the two countries have commitments under international accords, we are saddened by Tajikistan's unjustified armed assault;
  • We are ready to continue the process of negotiations with the Tajik side in any format, based on international rules, in civilized legal ways;
  • We are ready to mediation of international organizations, including the UN, the European Cooperation and Security Organization, and the CSTO;
  • There is documented evidence of the actions of the Tajik side, which was the first to attack in previous years and yesterday;
  • We have never been the first to attack and will not attack;
  • We always try to refrain from using weapons and never shoot unarmed civilians;
  • We always responded adequately to the aggression of the Tajik side;
  • The Kyrgyz side does not envy foreign land, but we will not give a centimeter of our land to anyone;
  • We believe that all border and economic issues should be resolved only through negotiations;
  • We are always ready for negotiations, to quickly clarify our border lines.

The head of the country also emphasized that the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is an important regional project.
